Veterans are the backbone of this country going back for generations. These brave men and women put their lives on the line to keep the U.S. safe, often at great sacrifice to themselves. Serving in the military brings a great deal of pride to those who wear the uniform, but it can also result in dealing with a mental health disorder. Montare at the Canyon wants to help serve the Veteran's community by providing the effective care each member deserves. For this reason, we created a specialized veteran’s mental health treatment program to serve those in need of support for a mental illness. Our experienced team of mental health professionals helps veterans understand they are not alone. We provide structured programs that feature multiple types of therapy for illnesses like PTSD, depression, anxiety, and more. Our experience working with veterans proves that each one can heal when they have access to the right type of support.
Mental Health and Veterans
Joining the military requires a person to be their best and train for a host of risky situations both at home and abroad. Military service can be dangerous and makes unique demands on a person’s physical health. As well, it can take its toll on a service member’s mental health. For example, many veterans develop a mental health disorder related to their military experiences. Symptoms may begin while they are serving or after they leave military service. When this happens, the most effective care they can pursue comes from a veteran’s mental health treatment program.
In a study done over a 20-year period of active duty service members, up to 23.7 percent of them suffered from an anxiety disorder. Of the military personnel deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, approximately 14-16% developed PTSD or depression. In addition, suicide among veterans is higher than that which occurs in the general population. In fact, over 6,000 veterans commit suicide annually, which is an all-time high for the country.
Common Mental Health Disorders Veterans Face
Veterans have an increased chance of developing three specific mental health disorders as compared to the general population. These include:
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: PTSD causes flashbacks, difficulty dealing with people, and avoiding triggering situations and locations.
Depression: This illness causes a person to feel sad and hopeless on a regular basis and unable to improve their mood and enjoy life.
Anxiety: Anxiety disorders cause a constant state of stress and anxiousness and may include having panic attacks.

Mental Health Treatment Programs We Offer to Our Veterans
Our program for veteran’s mental health treatment includes multiple levels of care so we can meet the exact needs of each person we treat. Some people participate in just one level of care, while others benefit from attending more than one. We provide an initial assessment of each veteran to determine which program level will meet their needs and help them accomplish their treatment goals. Our levels of care are:
Inpatient: When someone experiences severe symptoms that require round-the-clock care, inpatient or residential care often works best for them. Inpatient care allows people to leave the daily stressors of their lives behind while they focus on healing their mental health. This program helps stabilize the person so they can return home and transition to any necessary outpatient care.
Outpatient: We provide two different outpatient options. One is our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which includes three hours of daily treatment that takes place several days per week. Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) takes place eight hours per day, five days per week. Both types of outpatient care allow the individual to live in their own homes and travel to our facility for their therapy sessions.
Resilient Star Veteran Program (RSVP)
Our RSVP program is designed to help veterans develop resilience and accomplish their goals to feel well-adjusted and enjoy improved mental health. RSVP is based on hierarchy needs established by Abraham Maslow and includes three distinct phases:
- Bronze Level (Stabilization)
- Silver Level (Functioning)
- Gold Level (Optimization)
RSVP focuses on improving four areas of a veteran’s life: mind, body, spirit, and connection.
